Project Update! Crunchy Not Sweet: Adding Color in Layers

Although it varies a bit from project to project and artist to artist, the standard process KWiL follows when creating is picture book is:

  1. Manuscript acquisition and editing
  2. Hiring an illustrator (unless the author is also the illustrator)
  3. Character Study
  4. Sketching
  5. Final Line Work
  6. Color
  7. Design
  8. Copyediting
  9. Printing/Proofing

Author/Illustrator Amy Ward is in the final stage–color–for her book, Crunchy Not Sweet, which will release this fall.

Amy adds color to her illustrations digitally, and in layers. Here’s a sneak peek of her work-in-progress with the first two colors:

Thanks for sharing, Amy!
