Welcome to Author/Illustrator Amy Ward’s studio in Metamora, IL.
Today, Amy is using a process called “crayon resist.” She paints watercolor over crayon, which results in rich textures. When the papers have dried, Amy scans them and then, on her computer, digitally cuts them into the shapes that will become part of her final collage-style illustrations.
As you can see from the finished pieces included at the end of the post, the final illustrations are vibrant, playful, and sure to capture the attention and steal the hearts of young readers.
Thanks for letting us pop in, Amy!
